Flash Mob Choreographer

I've lived many lives, and one of the more interesting ones is as a choreographer of dancing flash mobs. I've done mobs in Seattle and New York with as many as 1,000 people.

Take a look around to see some of the stuff I've worked on.

Here are various styles in which I've trained.

A still of a dancer jumping in a traditional Russian ballet costume.
Ballet

This is the style in which I've actually trained the longest.

A man and woman make exaggerated faces wearing baggy clothes
Hip Hop

This is a silly photo, but I really do know how to dance hip hop.

A man in the foreground holds the hand of woman in black clothes
Jazz

Jazz is like ballet, but it has less regular body shapes and is more...gooey?

A group of actors dressed in 60s costumes posing with funny faces
Musical Theater

This is where you've gotta sing while you're dancing too.

A woman in a flowery dress holding a fan with a sultry pose standing next to a smiling man in a hat.
Swing

I know a number of social/ballroom dances, including waltz, foxtrot, tango, salsa, and cha cha.

Tap

This is Newsies. I'm on the left. It had the best dancing of any show I've done.

Projects

Flash Mobs

A flash mob is when a group of people arrange to show up at the same place, ideally in high numbers. There are different kinds, but I participated in and then was a choreographer and coordinator of a few dozen mobs over 5 or 6 years.

Here are a few mobs that I'm proud of. Take a look at the first one, at least. I'd love to share them with you.

Walk to End Alzheimer's Mob

I think that this one is just gorgeous. The reflective purple surface of the Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle forms the backdrop and perfectly matches the purple theme of the walk.

Unfortunately, it won't embed. So, I just have to provide a link here instead.

Marriage Proposal Mob - (Glee Flash Mob) - 2012

This is the 3rd annual Glee Flash Mob that took place in Seattle in 2012. We put out a message a few months before asking whether there was anyone who would be interested in using a flash mob as a proposal. The boyfriend of a long-time mobber, Emily, reached out and the plan was hatched.

During flash mob practices, we said that there would be a special guest and teased different celebrities, just saying that they'd finally see who it was once everyone turned to the center and crouched. It was no celebrity waiting there, but Tim. She said yes, by the way, and they were eventually married on the same spot.

If you watch, definitely start the video at 1 minute and 20 seconds. The beginning is a little rough. The proposal is at 3:39.

Final Glee Mob - 2014

For the fifth and final Glee Flash Mob, Beth Meberg and I, the choreographers, decided to just start the mob ourselves. Many of the dancers who joined just after that were from a dance group I danced (part-time) with for 10 years, Splinter Dance Company.

Some of this choreography was from previous Glee Mobs and I wasn't responsible for the choreo of the first two years.

Glee Mob Year 2 - 2012

I didn't actually participate in the choreography for this flash mob, though I do still appear in it. Like the other Glee Mobs, you can see me in orange.

I'm including it here to round out the look of three. I have several other mobs that I did choreograph, but they wouldn't embed (or they are not worth highlighting, smiley face).
